So What if it's for College Dorms?

Most of my green decorating has come from Target, which is their line of home goods geared towards college students. Good thing for me that the green is gender-neutral and they carry an abundance of goodies to match my room!
The lamp that was in the room was an icky, old black lamp left over from college days; it sometimes doesn't even work right:

Thanks to this Sunday's ad, I bought a brand new lamp in spinach green to match the room:

Now to get the spinach green wall clock...

My Recalled Crib

I was blessed to get a crib for free from a friend of a friend. After vacation I put it together, then looked on cpsc.gov to see if it was recalled. Lo and behold, the entire line of cribs from this (now defunct) company have been recalled. They were recalled not only for the sides, but for the mattress support collapsing. I have been scouring craigslist to find a reasonably  priced crib without a drop down side. I think I found one here. She said she would hold it for me until payday, so if it's meant to be, it will be!

Finished!

So glad that I'm finally finished with the room! I had my home study this week, and should be officially licensed within the next couple of weeks. Very exciting...

The perfect green Pack and Play...

All my new toys have a home, and the play yard matches the decor!

Garage Sale Finds, Continued

Today was a GREAT day for garage sales. Jess, Elizabeth, and I went sign scouting for any garage sales in the neighborhood, and found some good ones. One was a house full of children's toys, a quarter a bag. The last house had great baby gear, $3 a bag for some good stuff. Spent less than $20 today!

Garage Sale Finds

Last weekend, my subdivision had a pitiful garage sale (the better one is later in the summer). I did manage to spend $1.50. I think I got my money's worth:

She threw in the Sesame Street cups and the straws, just to get rid of them. That's OK by me!

Newest Acquisitions

I have recently acquired some goodies from some wonderful friends. Ashley (my fabulous coworker) bequeathed me the rocker, toddler car seat, and high chair. The convertible car seat came from Liza, and the changing table pad a fabulous $5 Craigslist find.

Room is Almost Finished

After spending the majority of the day today cleaning, vacuuming and the like, the baby room is almost finished. I still need to get the Pack 'n Play that I want, and maybe order some red dots for the walls.I'm pretty happy at how it turned out.

I wanted to use the top shelf for all my children's books, but the shelves aren't strong enough and only attached to one stud in the wall. Better to be safe than sorry and keep the books elsewhere.

My word art that I really liked; found at Hobby Lobby for half price!

Didn't like the paint color of the bulletin board, so repainted it to match the green of the room. Pack 'n Play is Ken and Marleah's, on loan until I get my own.

I've always wanted a bible verse on the wall; finally found the right one!

The final product for the changing table; just need to get a changing pad and I'll be all set

Since I don't have overhead lighting, this lamp will have to do.

I've Made it Make Sense

A built in desk in an apartment is a good thing, right?
Not so great when you don't have any shelving above the desk!

What purpose does it serve, other than to be an incredibly huge, blank canvas. So I traded in the blank canvas for the obvious choice: shelving!

It doesn't look so weird anymore!

Remodel: As Much As Possible in An Apartment

I have been remodeling/cleaning/decorating my baby bedroom to the fullest extent possible. Since it's an apartment, I am limited on what I can do. So far I have made the window treatment:

For a boy, it's dots

For a girl, it's stripes, with dots and flowers

Not a Blank Slate Anymore...

I finally turned the big, blank wall into something more colorful...

I'm still deciding if I like the random pattern, or if I want something more structured.

My First Baby Gear

My teacher friend's daughter sold me her car seat/stroller travel system, the  Chicco Cortina system. It is one of the highest rated and had excellent reviews, so I am thankful. It is green and gray, very gender neutral. I'm excited about this acquisition!

PRIDE completetion

I have successfully completed my PRIDE class!

I Have Some Reading to Do

Today was PRIDE class #1 at Homes with Hope. It was fantastic, both for the content (answering a lot of questions) and for the people I met (two other single moms!). Our group of five really bonded, especially over lunch at the corner deli. My faith is definitely renewed and I feel empowered that I can do this. Now I just need to get to my reading...

We also talked a lot about this book, and we're fortunate enough to get our own copy!
